Registered Nursing Specialties
ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING
These are nurses that work in advanced positions such as: Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Certified Nurse-Midwives, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, RN First Assistants, and Nurse Psychotherapists. These professionals may have a Master degree in nursing as well.
ACUTE CARE NURSING
These nurses work in ER, OR, Clinics, and Critical Care Units. They may serve as case managers, administrators, educators and researchers. Acute Care Nurses provide care to patients suffering from acute conditions such as heart-attacks and respiratory distress syndrome or shock. They may also care for post-op patients and perform therapeutic procedures.
ALLERGY NURSING
The registered nurses in this field provide care to patients suffering from allergy disorders and immunodeficiencies. They place a strong emphasis in prevention and control with patients and family education as well as self-management with education regarding each diagnosis.
AMBULATORY CARE NURSING
Nurses in this specialty provide care and support to individuals and families occasionally outside the hospital environment. These nurses stress the importance of pain management and education to empower patients with the knowledge of their chronic injury or illness, so they may regain and maintain healthy and independent lives in their home surrounding.
Advanced Practice Clinical Nurse Specialist
These nurses are clinical experts that have earned a master's or doctorate degree from a program that prepares nurses in the field of Clinical Nurse Specialty. They can diagnose and treat illnesses with evidence-based interventions to patients as well as provide clinical expertise and advanced assessments to nurses, organizations and patients or families.
BURN NURSING
The nurses in this field are level II registered clinical nurses who provide care to patients that have attained burns due to fire, water, sun, wire and chemical substances. These specially trained nurses monitor and provide hands-on care and support to patients for all aspects of burn care and total rehabilitation.
CARDIAC CARE NURSING
Nurses in this field work with patients and families of the patient who suffer from heart disease. Often Cardiac Care Nurses are specialized Critical Care Nurses in hospitals. This allows nurses to work with patients in the home and assist with monitoring cardiac drugs as well as providing care to patients who have undergone a bypass, angioplasty or pacemaker surgery.
CARDIAC CATH LAB NURSING
Nurses in this specialty assist in the diagnosis of heart disease and administer interventions, such as cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, and valvuloplasties. These nurses are responsible for assisting doctors with the implant of pacemakers and cardioverter-defibrillators. They are also responsible for staying abreast on the latest technologies of this rapidly growing field.
CASE MANAGEMENT NURSING
Nurses in this field coordinate care for patients receiving long-term therapy, providing optimal timing throughout the patients' entire treatment. For cancer patients, they may coordinate primary care visits, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Usually a Nurse Case Manager specializes in one specific area such as geriatrics, children, disabilities, or AIDS.
CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHESIA
Nurse Anesthetists administer local or general anesthesia to patients undergoing a surgical procedure.
CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST
These are experienced nurses that hold Master's degrees in many different nursing specialties. They assist RNs and are a valuable resource for all consulting health professionals when challenging nursing perplexities do arise.
COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH NURSING
Health nursing provides alternative forms of health care, such as acupuncture and massage therapy.
CRITICAL CARE NURSING
Nurses in this specialty care for patients of all ages who are acutely ill or in critical condition. These nurses often use complex equipment and are also responsible for the well being of patients and their families.
CRITICAL CARE CARDIOVASCULAR
The nurses in this field are Clinical Nurse Specialists that focus on cardiovascular care to patients who are experiencing coronary heart disease. They provide care and education to patients about overexertion and injuries during physical activity. They also provide support to patients as they work on habit changes that could contribute to the progression of their disease.
CRITICAL CARE CARDIOTHORACIC
These registered nurses use their skills and expertise in managing human dynamics as well as managing heart technology. They provide care to patients who have undergone cardiac surgery for bypass, valve replacements, ventricular assist devices, or have experienced an acute chest trauma. The nurses provide a significant contribution to the quality and safety of care to their patients.
CRITICAL CARE PICU
These registered nurses with keen assessment skills work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, providing care to very ill children with acute situations or a life threatening events of all ages. They provide a one on one relationship with each patient and their families to offer the best quality of care possible.
CRITICAL CARE NICU
In this nursing field, nurses devote their skills to newborns who need specialized care in the first 28 days of their life. They provide direct patient care to babies born premature or as sick term infants who require technology care such as ventilators or incubation.
CRITICAL CARE ICU
The nurses in this field work in critical care units that provide care to patients who are experiencing or are at-risk for experiencing life-threatening conditions. They care for patients that have had major invasive surgery, an accident, trauma, or possible organ failure. The nurses assess and constantly monitor patients in case immediate interventions are necessary.
CRITICAL CARE SICU
These nurses provide one on one care to patients who are recovering from general surgery, transplants, vascular surgeries and head-and-neck cases. They monitor patients that have undergone complex procedures and focus on total patient care and their families.
CRITICAL CARE NEURO ICU
The nurse in this specialized field provide care to critically ill patients that require specialized neurological monitoring and care. They will use devices that measure intracranial pressure and detect slight changes in the patients' condition, even before the monitor does. Their reliable keen abilities recognize minute changes in level of consciousness in patients.
CRITICAL CARE PROGRESSIVE CARE/STEP DOWN
The Registered Nurses in this specialty provide care to patients with higher-acute situations in a more collaborative and intimate setting. They work with patients who have been diagnosed with pneumonia, asthma, COPD and cardiac arrhythmia.
DIALYSIS NURSE
The professionals in this field are provide extensive care for patients who are suffering from renal failure or chronic kidney conditions. They use the latest in dialysis technologies as well as learn to repair dialysis equipment.
ENDOCRINOLOGY NURSE
The nurses in this field participate in a comprehensive team approach to treatment and management of endocrine disorders in patients. They focus on diabetes and growth-hormone deficiencies in adults and children alike.
ENDOSCOPY NURSE
These registered nurses are experienced in assessing, implementing and supervising nursing care to patients in an endoscopy setting. They work closely with the GI Team to ensure the proper patient care and assist the physician with procedures involving the GI tract. The nurse will also maintain and clean endoscopic equipment.
DERMATOLOGY NURSING
Dermatology nurses provide care to patients receiving treatment of wounds and diseases of the skin. They educate to patients' about skin conditions and preventative outlines to maintain healthy skin.
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY NURSING
Developmental Disability Nurses provide care for patients with physical or mental disabilities. They educate and promote empowerment to the individual to enable independence and best possible quality of life.
DIABETES NURSING
Nurses in this field assist those suffering from complications stemming from diabetes. This disease affects the body's ability to create insulin. The nurses are also specialists in the endocrine system, such as the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid's, adrenals, pineal body, and reproductive glands.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE NURSING
Nurses in this field work with and provide care for children, adults, and elderly who may be in clinics or abuse and domestic violence shelters. They research the prevention of domestic violence and educate persons' of abuse, as well as provide support and resources where available. The nurses are also known as: Violence Nursing; Violence Prevention Nursing; Child Abuse Nursing; and, Elder Abuse Nursing.
CRITICAL CARE EMERGENCY NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care for patients in the critical or emergency stage of an illness or trauma. They must be able to recognize life-threatening problems and rapidly arrange necessary care. The nurses are not limited to working only in the emergency room.
FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER
These RN's have one-to-two years of advanced education beyond a Bachelor's degree and are able to diagnose an illness and prescribe medication to patients. They conduct interviews and physical exams, order specific labs and diagnostic testing, and provide prevention and intervention to patients. Since Family Nurse Practitioners are trained to provide care and promote health, they can also diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases in patients from childhood to old age.
FLIGHT/TRANSPORT NURSING
Nurses in this field provide intensive and crucial nursing care while transporting critical patients by ambulance, helicopter or private plane. They may also transport less critical patients via commercial airlines domestic and internationally.
FORENSIC NURSING
The nurses in this field assist law enforcement officials in the investigation of crimes such as sexual assault, abuse, assault and battery, and accidental death. They can also treat the victims of these crimes.
GASTROENTEROLOGY NURSING
Endoscopy Nurses, also known as Gastroenterology Nurses, work along side with health care providers whose patients have been diagnosed and are undergoing treatment for disorders that effect the digestive system, including reflux, abdominal pain, bleeding, and some kinds of cancers.
GENERALIST NURSE
The nurses in this field are registered nurses who work in a variety of health care settings, such as acute or chronic care, community health, or long-term care. They bring the knowledge, skills and problem-solving ability to manage care for patients appropriately. These nurses work in hospital settings and are encouraged to be medical-surgical generalists, cancer care generalists or spend time learning knowledge, additional skills and critical thinking for future careers in a specialized field of care.
GENETICS NURSING
The nurses of this specialty will provide care to patients of all ages that have been diagnosed with genetic diseases and conditions. They're also involved in screening, risk identification, and the treatment of these diseases.
GERIATRIC/GERONTOLOGICAL NURSING
Since more than 50% of patients in hospitals are over the age of 65, Geriatric or Gerontological Nursing are a necessary and valuable commodity in the care of older adults. These nurses assist and promote rehabilitation and maintaining the mental and physical health of older patients. Whether working in a hospital or in a Long-Term Care facility, these nurses have extensive knowledge and training in the special care needs of the elderly.
GERONTOLOGICAL NURSE PRACTITIONER
A GNP is a registered nurse with a master's degree from a nurse practitioner program that specializes in the care of older adults. These nurses diagnose and manage acute and chronic diseases. They take and practice a holistic approach in meeting the medical, psychosocial, and functional needs of older patients.
GYNECOLOGY/OBSTETRIC NURSING
The nurses in this field provide care, support, and education for the female reproductive health with their patients. They promote wellness for women from their first menstrual cycle through menopause. This field of nursing is often further specialized into Perinatal Nursing and Labor & Delivery Nursing.
HEMATOLOGY NURSING
The nurses in this field provide care to people with Hemophilia, Sickle-Cell, Leukemia, and other diseases of the blood and blood forming organs. These nurses also help to educate and care for the families of those with diagnosed diseases. Because these diseases are closely associated with cancer, these nurses often specialize in Hematology and Oncology Nursing.
HIV/AIDS NURSING
Nurses in this field educate individuals on how to prevent the spread of HIV and help those infected cope with the physical, social, and psychological aspects of their disease, as well as minimize pain and maximize independence. The nurses also educate and support loved ones and family members of those infected with the disease.
HOME HEALTH CARE NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care for people in their homes who are recovering from an illness, an accident, or childbirth. They are also known as visiting nurses. These nurses improve and promote the quality of life for thousands of patients.
HOSPICE/PALLIATIVE NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide a sensitive care and pain relief plan to patients in their final stages of life. They protect patients from unnecessary painful therapies and often provide care at home so patients can spend maximized quality time with family and loved ones.
HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY NURSE
This registered nurse provides care to patients who use hyperbaric oxygen chambers for skin healing or patients who suffer from diabetic ulcers, necrotizing fasciitis, certain forms of toxicities or who have inhaled chemical cleansers.
INFECTION CONTROL NURSING
These nurses identify and control infections that occur in the community or in a hospital setting. The nurses collect data and enforce infection control and prevention plans. They also work with childhood infections, STDs, HIV, TB, and infections that occur during hospitalization.
INFORMATICS NURSING
Nurses in this field merge technology, computer science, and nursing science information as health care makes the transition from traditional record keeping and care delivery to computerized and automated systems. They implement, teach, and design vendor and IS systems to be more user friendly, with the goal of improving patient care.
INFUSION NURSING
Nurses in this field, also called Intravenous Nursing, provide care to patients by administering fluids, medication, or blood products through injections or by maintaining arterial catheters. These nurses are also responsible for monitoring patients, maintaining their tubing and bandages, and recognizing potential drug interactions and complications. Infusion Nurses work in hospitals, long-term care centers, clinics, and home health agencies.
INTRAVENOUS THERAPY NURSE
These nurses work in the field of infusion. They provide care to patients by administering fluids, medication or blood products through injections while maintaining arterial catheters. The nurse monitors the patient and recognizes potential drug interaction or complications.
LABOR & DELIVERY NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care to women who are in labor or who have recently delivered, and for those who may be having complications during labor. They also work with physicians to create plans in safe deliveries of healthy babies.
LACTATION CONSULTATION
Nurses in this field help new mothers with breastfeeding and any problems they may experience. They advocate for breastfeeding mothers in the workplace and work in health policy fields to encourage progress of breastfeeding programs and legislation.
LEGAL NURSE CONSULTING
Nurses in this field review and investigate medical records to assist attorneys in determining whether a medical negligence has occurred.
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING
(LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurses, care for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled by direction of physicians and registered nurses. These nurses provide basic care to patients by taking vital signs, temperature, blood pressure, and pulse. The nurses assist patients with bathing, monitor catheters and apply dressings. Most technical and vocational schools offer a one year LPN or LVN academic program.
LONG-TERM CARE NURSING
This field of nursing provides continuing care to patients who have been diagnosed with chronic diseases and usually involves elderly or disabled patients and their families.
MATERNAL CHILD NURSE
These nurses provide relevant information to registered nurses practicing in perinatal, neonatal, midwifery, and pediatric specialties, regarding well infant health to adolescent health practices.
MANAGED CARE NURSING
Nurses in this specialty develop and promote programs to keep the cost of health care at a minimal. They assist patients efficiently as well as educate the individuals and families about self-care and basic prevention of illnesses.
MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING
Nurses in this field are RN's who provide care to patients prior and post surgery. They can work in long-term care facilities, home care and hospitals. These nurses also work with patients to manage illness.
MILITARY AND UNIFORMED SERVICE NURSING
These nurses provide medical care for military soldiers and their families, in all branches of the US military as well as the US Public Health service.
NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide care and undoubted support for very ill or premature newborn babies and their families.
NEPHROLOGY NURSING
These nurses care for patients of all ages who experience or are at potential risk for kidney disease.
NEUROLOGY/NEURO SURGERY/NEUROSCIENCE NURSING
The nurses in this specialty provide care and support to patients diagnosed with dysfunctions of the nervous system. The nurses assist patients' with head trauma, seizures and spinal cord injuries, regain strength.
NURSE EDUCATOR
Nurse Educators take the responsibility of teaching and mentoring the next generation of nurses. Educators work in a classroom and practice setting and are responsible for lesson preparation plans, inspiring to learn, instructing as well as encouraging nursing students to strive for the appreciation of the nursing profession.
NURSE MIDWIFERY
A nurse in this specialty will provide total care for pregnant women. Beginning from the prenatal visits through labor and delivery. The nurse also provides primary health care throughout the rest of a woman's reproductive life.
NURSE PRACTITIONER
A Nurse practitioner is an RN with several years of education that is able to diagnose an illness and prescribe interventions and/or a physical exam. These nurses can order specific labs and diagnostic testing as well as prescribe medications. They provide education, counseling, and support to patients and the community.
CLINICAL NURSE RESEARCHER
Nurses of this specialty are responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, solving clinical problems and writing grants. These nurses will share and implement their research findings with healthcare communities in applying improvement of patient care.
NURSING ENTREPRENEUR
These nurses apply their training and skills toward developing, promoting, and consulting in potential business offers that pertain to the health care industry. They can build their fortune on nursing knowledge and develop medical devices or technical systems, allowing staff nursing to spend quality time providing care to their patients.
NURSING EXECUTIVE AND NURSING
CEO Management and administration are the primary functions of Nurse Executives. Their leadership roles promote the latest design of quality care, including the planning, development of policies and procedures. They are responsible for the budget administration of health clinics, nursing homes, ambulatory care centers and hospitals.
NURSING MANAGER AND NURSING ADMINISTRATION
Nurses in this field have nursing degrees, business degrees, or nursing administration. They work with the health care administration, while directing and guiding the nursing workforce in facilities.

ONCOLOGY NURSING (CANCER NURSING)
Nurses in this field provide care and support for patients that are diagnosed with cancer. These nurses are responsible for administering chemotherapy and managing patients' symptoms that are related to cancer.
CRITICAL CARE OPERATING ROOM NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care and support to patients prior, during, and post surgery. They are responsible for a sterile environment in the operating room and coordinating the patients care throughout the surgery as well as monitor the patient during the surgery. The nurses are also responsible for the quality of care the OR team provides the patient.
OPHTHALMIC NURSING
These nurses provide care and support for patients that are diagnosed with disorders of the eyes. This includes blindness, glaucoma or eye trauma.
ORTHOPAEDIC NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide care and support for patients with musculoskeletal diseases. They educate the patients and the families about self-care and the available support systems.
OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY NURSING (HEAD AND NECK NURSING)
These nurses also known as Head and Neck, Nursing, provide care and support to patients undergoing medical and surgical procedures concerning the ears, nose, and throat.
PAIN MANAGEMENT NURSING
The nurses in this field are responsible for what is referred to as the fifth vital sign. They assess, treat and monitor pain in patients. These nurses educate patients how to manage their pain as well as keeping patient safe during treatments. A Pain Management Specialist is an Advanced Practice Nurse with a Masters Degree as well as having a Nurse Practitioner Certificate. Some may even have a certification in Palliative Care or Advanced Oncology.
PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide care and support to children and their families who have been diagnosed with any relating disease of the endocrine system. The glands secrete directly into the blood or lymph nodes. The nurses help patients and their families deal with issues that will arise from the physical growth and sexual development in childhood, to diabetes, obesity, and other possible disorders of the endocrine glands.
PEDIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER
These specially trained nurses have extensive education in pediatric health care as well as nursing. They work with pediatricians as well as serve as a health care provider to promote advance children's health care from newborns to late teens.
PEDIATRIC NURSING
These are nurses that provide care and treatment to young patients ranging from infancy to young adult. They may even extend their training in areas such as immunology or oncology.
PEDIATRIC OPERATING ROOM NURSE
The nurses in this field rely on their judgment and critical thinking skills to work with children and adolescents in and out of the operating room. They plan, implement, and evaluate treatments of patient.
PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY
The registered nurses are experts in working in emergency situations with children and adolescents who come into the emergency room with physical emergencies or traumatic emergencies. The nurses provide triage care, assist with immediate diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
PEDIATRIC PSYCHIATRY
These registered nurses work with children and adolescents to assess mental health needs, develop and plan interventions that promote healthy functions and assist the patients to regain or improve their coping abilities as well as prevention of further disability.
PERIANESTHESIA NURSING (RECOVERY ROOM NURSING)
Nurses in this field are responsible for preparation of patients entering surgery. They monitor the patient during surgery and provide care and support during the transition of patient awakening from the anesthesia after surgery.
PERINATAL NURSING
These nurses will provide care and support to women and their families prior, during, and post childbirth. They will educate mothers about natural childbirth techniques and pre-natal health. The nurses provide comfort during delivery and encourage mother-child bonding after the baby is born. The nurses are also known as: OB Nursing. Postpartum Nursing, Women's Health Nursing, or Mother/Baby/Couplet Care Nursing.
PERIOPERATIVE NURSE
The nurses in this field work in and out of the operating room with surgical patients and family members to understand and support the patient before surgery. They may also work as a nurse anesthetist, an OR Director, managing budgets, staffing and other business aspects of the operating room.
PLASTIC SURGERY NURSING
Plastic or Reconstructive Surgery Nursing provides care to patients undergoing a cosmetic procedure to correct abnormalities. These nurses provide after care and support to patients who have under-gone a procedure from small and elective procedures to the more complicated.
POISON INFORMATION SPECIALIST
Poison Information Specialists are nurses that provide poison prevention and treatment information to individuals, schools, businesses, and medical professionals. These nurses are either licensed pharmacists or licensed registered nurses who often work in poison control centers providing phone triage to patients who may have swallow poison. These nurses may have backgrounds in emergency rooms and intensive care units.
POST PARTUM NURSE
These nurses provide care to mothers who recently delivered and suffering with postpartum symptoms. They care for women and their health needs after the baby is born and offer psychosocial as well as emotional support in the changing needs for women and their families.
PRE-ADMISSION NURSE
The nurses in this field screen all patient admissions to the facility and ensure the patient to be placed in the most appropriate level of care based on medical needs.
PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER
Also called Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, these nurses provide a full range of psychiatric care as well as practiced management of the prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and mental health problems. These experienced registered nurses diagnose patients in various settings from clinics to hospitals.
PSYCHIATRIC NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care and support to patients with acute or chronic psychiatric needs.
PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING
Nurses in this field work in government and private agencies, clinics, and other private settings. They focus on populations, working with individuals, groups, and families to improve the overall health of communities. They educate about health care issues, disease prevention, nutrition, and childcare, and also work with community leaders, teachers, parents, and physicians in community health education.
PULMONARY CARE NURSING (RESPIRATORY NURSING)
Nurses in this specialty provide care to patients who suffer from diseases that affect the lungs, including tuberculosis, asthma, and cystic fibrosis. They also work with patients who wean off ventilators. While Pulmonary Care Nurses are often Critical Care Nurses, they also work with patients in the home and assisting them with pain management.
RADIOLOGY NURSING
Radiology nurses provide care and support to patients undergoing diagnosis in radiation imaging, including ultrasonography, magnetic resonance, and radiation oncology. They are also known as Cardiac Catheterization Lab Nursing.
REHABILITATION NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide physical as well as emotional support to patients and the families of patients with an illness or disability. They provide care to patients whose lifestyles are affected by their ability to function normal.
RENAL DIALYSIS NURSE
This expertise level of nursing have clinical experience and provide care to patients diagnosed with kidney failure. They will evaluate, plan, implement and document level of care as well as monitor patients' dialysis machine and dialysis procedures.
RENAL NURSE
These nurses work with patients who have been diagnosed with renal disease and help patients and their families lead potentially normal lives while coping with the symptoms of the disease. They assist with renal therapies and the safety and comfort of each patient on an outpatient basis or homebound.
REPRODUCTIVE NURSING
Nurses in this field work in clinics or centers that provide treatments and counseling programs to individuals and couples with difficulties in conception. They provide education and support to individuals, couples, and families with concerns in fertility, menopause, and reproductive system.
RHEUMATOLOGY NURING
Rheumatology Nurses work with patients who are diagnosed or receiving treatment in the field of Rheumatic diseases. Their responsibilities include monitoring blood work and patients' pain response. The nurse will recognize and treat symptoms while evaluating and managing the effectiveness of medication.
SUB-ACUTE NURSING
Nurses of this specialty provide care for patients who have been hospitalized with an acute illness or injury. This kind of nursing care is more intensive work than traditional nursing home care or long-term care.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE NURSING
These nurses are pain management nurses who provide care for patients that are suffering with an addiction to drugs, alcohol and other types of substance abuse. They assist with the regulation of medications and provide encouragement along with support for the patient.
SURGICAL NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care and support to patients prior, during, and post surgery. These nurses work in different rolls throughout the environment of the surgical department. There are scrub nurses, circulating nurses and RN first assistants who are involved in the surgery process.
TELEMETRY NURSING
Nurses in this field provide care to patients on machines that measure heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, blood-oxygen levels and electrocardiogram information. These machines send data to the nurses station for monitoring, reading and interpretation of information of each patient.
TELEPHONE TRIAGE NURSING
Telephone Triage Nurses provide consultation, support and advise by phone with patients, consumers, and clients. The nurse helps determine what type of care is needed and may refer patients to a healthcare provider instead of a clinic or emergency room. This in turn reduces unnecessary visits.
TELEMEDICINE NURSE
These nurses use telemedicine data of patients for assistance in diagnosing conditions or illnesses electronically. The nurse can provide the appropriate care to the patient prior to go to the emergency room and telemedicine assists patients diagnosed with cardiac, stroke, total renal failure and homecare and hospice patients by using electronic remote devices to monitor the patient 24 hours a day.
TOXICOLOGY NURSING
Toxicology Nurses work with patients who have been exposed to a toxic or poisonous substance. These nurses will follow-up on the progress of patients and assist in evaluating diagnostic tests, clinical, laboratory, and EKG findings. They also educate about poison control and prevention. They provide treatment advice and/or possible evaluation of a patient's response.
TRANSPLANT NURSING
Men and women in this field work in organ transplants. They provide support to the recipients of organs, living-donor patients offering their organs for transplant, and their families. These nurses are responsible for coordinating and administering care throughout the transplantation process: prior, during, and post surgery. These nurses also provide education to patients and their families concerning the patients' transplant.
TRAUMA CRITICAL CARE NURSING
Nurses in this field provide emergency care to patients of all ages. These nurses work to maintain vital signs and prevent complications that may lead to fatality.
TRAVEL NURSING
These nurses work in short or long term positions worldwide. Traveling nurses may work from three to eleven weeks at a time and usually enjoy the unique traveling benefits they receive.
UROLOGIC NURSING
Urologic nurses care for patients while providing guidance and treatment for a variety of urologic diseases. They work in all health care settings, resolving acute problems as well as managing chronic conditions. Urologic nurses perform exams, interpret diagnostic findings, treat bladder dysfunctions and incontinence, as well as provide patient education on preventative care.
UTILIZATION REVIEW/MANAGEMENT
This registered nurse is responsible to the Chief of Quality Management and Performance Improvement Service. These nurses ensure all patient placement a success and all standardized criteria are met. They screen all admissions into a Medical Center and provide optimal use of the facilities resources.
VASCULAR NURSING
These highly trained registered nurses solely care for patients with peripheral vascular disorders and pain associated with the disorder. They provide care, treatment and nursing management strategies for each vascular disorder in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They assist with patients recovering from arterial reconstruction surgery
WOUND & OSTOMY NURSING
Nurses in this field provide support and care for individuals with stomas, vascular and pressure wounds, draining wounds, neuropathic wounds, and fistulas. They assist patients with managing these conditions as well as pain and discomfort.
